Lets say being aligned with the shoreline facing north is 12 o'clock on a face clock, turn just slightly after 1 o'clock and cast 20 to 40 feet out. Pumpkin Seed: Spawn on the left side of the river at the lower spawn spot and walk south on the path until the reeds and wall is across from you then face north where you came from and look up the reed / shore line. Catfish, bowfin, and burbot are in the deepest parts of the channel, panfish hang out on the edge of the channel close to you all the way to the shore line. Look at the tablet (M key by default) to see where the channel is. The catfish and bottom feeders hang out toward the bottom so if you start getting them shorten your leader length a bit to avoid them. They can weigh up to 14 lbs there which will be a long fight using light gear targeting panfish. If you get a larger catfish on light gear on the line at the Mudwater location you might be fighting it for a while.

When I fish anywhere on Mudwater if I go deeper than half way with the leader length I usually end up starting to catch bottom feeding fish (Catfish, Bowfin, Carp, Burbot). The ultralight gear you start the game with works just fine.
